Slashercore kings Ice Nine Kills are back in all of their gory glory today, unleashing a chilling video for their Child's Play inspired new single Assault and Batteries.
The second track to drop from their highly anticipated album The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood (out October 15th on Fearless Records), Assault and Batteries is an exercise in sensory assault and battery of the Ice Nine Kills style, with a hooky chorus providing an anchor for the band's trademark hyperactive genre-hopping.
Inspired by the Child's Play series that made Chucky a beloved horror icon and the star of many childhood nightmares, the lyrics feature several of Chucky's infamous one-liners and the song even artfully repurposes the black magic spell that transferred the soul of serial Charles Lee Ray into Chucky in Child's Play.
Vocalist Spencer Charnas commits fully to the bit as always, embodying the fear as he shifts between deathy guttural growls and pitch-perfect melodic cleans with ease, telling the tale of demonic possession by a doll with the perfect blend of characterisation and drama.
The cinematic video is a horror buffs dream, faithfully incorporating elements of the Child's Play series into the bands own narrative, with the transition of Spencer's character Andy from child to a serial killer (complete with Chucky'esque mask) and the inevitable bloodshed that follows presented in typically over the top, B-grade horror style.
Speaking on Assault and Batteries vocalist and principal ideator, Spencer said "It was only one month ago that we painted the walls of Wall Street red with the release of Hip To Be Scared. now we proudly present Assault and Batteries, a brutal ode to an iconic two-foot tall demonic doll"
Assault & Batteries follows the release of Hip To Be Scared, the first single from The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood, that paid homage to the Bret Easton Ellis classic, American Psycho.
Decadent, devious, and fiercely insane, with sardonic wit to spare, Ice Nine Kills celebrate pop culture’s darkest edges, mining a cinephile library’s worth of b-movie schlock and iconic horror on The Silver Scream 2:Welcome to Horrorwood.
