Pick scraping is a guitar technique that bands like Gojira use to create that weird dissonant noise. It's hard to describe, but you've probably heard it before; a good example is from the band's track 'Explosia', where it can be heard in the very first section:
So what happens when you push that noise to its limits? Turns out it's pretty awful, but a bit of a laugh too; YouTuber Rob Scallon has uploaded a hilarious video which starts off sounding pretty normal, until the amount of pick scraping becomes so severe that it just ends up sounding like a game of Space Invaders. He even uses a pedestal fan to scrape the guitar's strings with its spinning blades! Check it out below:
