The legendary Smashing Pumpkins have dropped their 11th studio album Cyr, a monster 20-track double record that serves as the second part to their conceptual Shiny and Oh So Bright series.
This new record was produced by vocalist Billy Corgan himself, who told the LA Times:
"I was trying to bring myself into modernity. I got Logic (software), I got some beats going, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I started to feel like the Luddite who couldn’t evolve. But then I realized that when I first heard Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy and Joy Division, they were making very modern music by using the technology that they had at hand. So I had to get inside the choices that they made."
Cyr also has the classic Pumpkins lineup intact with Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlain and Jeff Schroeder on board, who reunited for the first Shiny and Oh So Bright volume back in 2018.
There's more of an experimental, synth-laden sound at play here compared to their signature alt-rock style, but it's still distinctly Pumpkins underneath!
