Ghost have released a new EP. Featuring covers of deep cuts by Television, Genesis, The Stranglers, Iron Maiden and Tina Turner, PHANTOMIME arrives as the band prepares for their first-ever headline run of Australia. The release of PHANTOMIME coincides with the launch of the band's new virtual escape room experience Escape From The Ministry.
The Escape From The Ministry virtual escape room experience allows fans a first ever chance to explore the hallowed halls of the newly renovated ministry—seen in several installments of Ghost’s ongoing webisode series—soundtracked of course by PHANTOMIME. Fans can begin their own adventures within the ministry here.
The release of PHANTOMIME has been preceded by this week’s release of Ghost’s faithful cover of Iron Maiden’s Phantom of the Opera and last month's reveal of its interpretation of Genesis’ Jesus He Knows Me.
PHANTOMIME was conceived to follow last year’s international chart-topping opus IMPERA. A revelatory sampling of the GRAMMY winners' musical DNA, PHANTOMIME is comprised of covers of classics and deep cuts by Television, Genesis, The Stranglers, Iron Maiden and Tina Turner. PHANTOMIME pays tribute in equal measure to every one of these diverse influences, while stamping them all with Ghost’s undeniable sonic signature.
Helmed over the years by Tobias Forge and an ever-shifting identity as various incarnations of the demonic Papa Emeritus, and briefly as Cardinal Copia, Ghost's fluctuations also burrow deeply into an ambitious and innovative DNA. Spanning everything from heavy metal to hard rock, doom metal, psychedelic rock, pop and more, Ghost have enamoured and challenged the status quo throughout their career while also sweeping critical acclaim.
Boasting the macabre sensuality by Forge and accompanied by an army of instrumentalists known as Nameless Ghouls, Ghost's notorious performances gleefully break free of any preconceived notions of a typical live metal show, with confetti cannons, disco lights, a razor-sharp aesthetic and everything in between taking centre stage over the years on both festival runs and gargantuan arena tours.
Having previously appeared on the Big Day Out, Soundwave and Download festivals down under, Ghost's debut Australian headline run will kick off in Sydney on Tuesday, October 3 at the Hordern Pavilion, the tour will head down to Melbourne on Wednesday, October 4 at Margaret Court Arena before making its way to Brisbane on Saturday, October 7 at the Riverstage. Tickets for the tour are on sale now from Destroy All Lines.
