Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson probably has one of the most instantly-recognisable voices in metal music, with his classic operatic wailing a huge part of Maiden's legendary sound.
That's why we had to do a triple take when we listened to the debut single from Brazil's Icon Of Sin, whose vocalist Raphael Mendes is able to replicate Bruce's vocal style so accurately, you could close your eyes and barely tell the difference!
It really is astounding that anyone is able to get so close to Dickinson's ability, but you can hear it for yourself on the band's first track 'Shadow Dancer' below, which is a solid track all round - check it out:
'Shadow Dancer' was released in tandem with the announcement of their debut self-titled album on April 16, with Raphael Mendes saying:
"This album will surprise many people. This is one of those albums you listen to from the beginning 'til the end, appreciating all the songs and repeating it again many times. There are songs about movies, video games, and more and I think combining these things with metal music is awesome. When Sergio and Marcelo showed me the songs, I got so happy because this is the kind of music I love and when you do the things with passion, it comes naturally. It was really amazing to work with them."
Producer/songwriter Marcelo Gelbcke added:
"I’m thrilled to show to the world the massive heavy metal album we've created. It was fun to use my songwriter/producer’s hat on this one. It’s a very diverse and organic record and I believe that heavy metal fans are going to love it!"
