It's Friday, Friday, got to get your fresh metal fix on Friday. That's right Maniacs it is finally Friday which means it is time to kick off the weekend with some Friday Fire.
With so many new metal releases dropping every week, it can be hard to know what to listen to, so we've taken it upon ourselves to do the heavy lifting, sorting the 'hell yeah' from the 'hell meh' you don't have to. So without fear or favour, here are is our Friday Fire: Five New Tracks We're Feeling This Friday.
Dying Wish- Cowards Feed, Cowards Bleed
Portland-based blistering hardcore five-piece Dying Wish just dropped their debut full-length album, Fragments of a Bitter Memory, and album opener Cowards Feed, Cowards Bleed is a punishing example of the pure brutality Dying Wish are capable of. A visceral barnstormer expressing the exasperated feeling of being fed up that we can all relate to RN. This is metalcore in the traditional sense and to borrow parlance from Every Time I Die's Andy Williams, it "whips ass".
Ministry - DisinformationIndustrial metal juggernaut Ministry just dropped their fifteenth full-length Moral Hygiene, an album built around Al Jourgensen's unflinching focus on societal ills, it has been heralded by critics and fans alike as one of the band's best releases. The single Disinformation is a perfect example of why. Disinformation is Ministry at their best and comes accompanied by an explosive video that brings the lyrical focus on the slippery slope we find ourselves in when consuming mass media without critical thinking to life in a typically unrelenting manner.
Crossfaith - Feel Alive
Japanese genre-blenders, Crossfaith channel their stadium rock side Feel Alive. The first song the band wrote since the COVID-19 hit, it's an uplifting anthem of positivity and reassurance that provides a much-needed reminder to their fans that there is a brand new day beyond the darkness. Featuring UK dubstep star Josh Friend of Modestep, this is a different side of Crossfaith but one that feels perfectly fitting for the moment.
ERRA - Vanish Canvas feat. Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox
Prolific metalcore progressives, ERRA join forces with Spiritbox vocalist Courtney LaPlante for a reimagined version of their track Vanish Canvas and the results are simply stunning. The juxtaposition of vocal styles adds even further emotional and melodic depth to an already evocative sonic tapestry.
This was reportedly Courtney's favourite ERRA song before she was asked to be involved and her investment and artistry just step things up another level.
ATLVS - Nazareth
Regional Victorian head crushers, ATLVS turn things up a notch on their crushing new single Nazareth.
The song explores toxic behaviour from selfish, manipulative people living with a God complex, and you can feel the vitriol bleeding from the speakers with every note. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Alpha Wolf's Scottie Simpson this sounds like the start of a punishing new era for ATLVS.
