We cannot wait to see Trivium at Soundwave 2014! We had a chat to lead guitarist CoreyBeaulieuabout what he’s been listening to lately as well as what makes him a MANIAC!
Tell us about the new album Vengeance Falls
If youre a fan of Trivium I think youre going to love the record. Pretty much everything we do as a band and all the elements that we have in our music is captured and its a fresh take on what we do. Its got big songs, big hooks, all the riffs and solos that everyone loves to hear, so its just got everything that Trivium does but bigger and better and in your face.
What was it like having David Draiman produce the record?
He brought a lot of his experience and shared it with us and showed us different ways of going about things which helped expand upon our sound and as individual players. We came up with creative ideas to make the songs stand out and give this record its own unique sound. It was a pleasure working with him!
Did you approach Vengeance Falls differently to previous records?
We recorded it song by song instead of recording the whole record an instrument at a time. We were able to focus on one or two tracks at a time and put all our focus and creative energy into them so we could really develop ideas instead of pulling ourselves over 13 tracks.
What have you been listening to lately?
Ive been listening to old Megadeth. The newest thing Ive been listening to is the new Devildriver record. Mostly Ive been listening to stuff I grew up on.
Are there any other artists you would like to work with?
We are always so busy focusing on our stuff and preparing what we are doing for our next record that Ive never really written or approached writing music that wasnt for Trivium stuff. The only thing Ive come close to doing was a couple of guitar solos for other bands and then also Matt and I doing Roadrunner United with King Diamond.
Corey Beaulieu, what makes you a Maniac?
I love metal and I love playing guitar. All I want to do is for the band, for music and for guitar.
