Genre-bending Houston pop/rock trio Waterparks have announced a debut headline tour of Australia.
Scheduled to begin in early October, the tour will see Waterparks team up with Canadian alt-pop singer/songwriter Lights, who will make her first appearance down under.
Tickets go on-sale Friday, April 21st at 10 am AEST via promoters Destroy All Lines. A pre-sale commences Wednesday, April 19th at 5 pm AEST, fans can register for that pre-sale here.
The tour announcement follows Waterparks' release of their fifth studio album Intellectual Property, which dropped last Friday, 14th April via Fueled By Ramen.
A union of three distinct personalities, Waterparks sound has always been an explorative one, and their genre-blending ways continue on Intellectual Property incorporating influences as disparate as Linkin Park, Every Time I Die, Balance & Composure, Donald Glover, One Direction, Ke$ha into their pop-rock compositions. The result is an eclectic batch of infectious, dynamic anthems.
Speaking about Intellectual Property, frontman Awsten Knight offers “When you listen to us, I just want you to feel good." “It’s bouncy shit. Even if it’s aggressive, it’s enthusiastic. There’s a lot of energy behind this. I try to make music that tingles people’s fucking brains, which is what my favourite music does for me."
Ahead of the release of Intellectual Property, Waterparks released a series of high-energy singles with the most recent Real Super Dark dropping in January. The track immediately kicks into high gear, with its heavy catharsis manifesting through jarring electronics, guttural screams, and an unexpectedly catchy chant.
In October 2022, the group shared the incendiary Fuck About It (feat. blackbear), following the confessional, diaristic Self-Sabotage, which was given a fresh take with a collaboration featuring Good Charlotte.
Waterparks tour counterpart, Lights is many things all at once: Singer. Songwriter. Producer. Multi-instrumentalist. Comic book author. DJ. Artist. She's also unabashedly honest and unapologetically confident. Weaving in and out of alternative, indie, electronic, and dance, she makes manic pop irreverent of boundaries, yet reverent of truth. She speaks her heart musically and her mind lyrically. It's why her shadow over alternative music and culture continues to grow with streams in the hundreds of millions and widespread critical acclaim.
Over the course of career thus far, the Canada-born disruptor has garnered four JUNO Awards, including 2020's "Dance Recording of the Year" for the platinum smash Love Me with Felix Cartal and "Pop Album of the Year" for her previous two albums, Skin&Earth and Little Machines. She has sold out tours on multiple continents and powered collaborations with Travis Barker, deadmau5, Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, and more. Now, she captivates like never before, kickstarting a latest era with PƎP and dEd.
