Steve Vai has made a talented young rocker's dream come true at a concert in Barcelona.
The guitar virtuoso invited a kid named Daniel Jimenez up on stage with him to perform the solo on For the Love of God. Jimenez confidently accepted the invitation and promptly took to absolutely shredding up a storm, to the delight of a clearly impressed Vai and a loving audience. You can watch the impressive performance in a video shared by Vai himself below.
While the performance itself is great viewing, the story of how this moment came to be is equally delightful, with Vai revealing that he met the young guitarist's father in a cab earlier that day.
"There was an excited cab driver that wanted me to get into his car to take me to the venue. During the drive, he was excited to show me a video clip of his son playing "For the Love of God" and I was actually pretty impressed with the way this boy played."
Vai spotted the two Jimenez at the show so made the call to give the future rockstar a chance to shine." So I decided to make his day...and he certainly kicked some ass," says the guitarist. "It was a splendid way to cap off an outstanding tour."
Jiminez has posted about the experience multiple times on his personal Instagram, revealing that he was overcome with emotion during the performance and that it is a moment he will remember forever.
"This day is going to be burned into my memories, you are a great musician and a great person, you are an example for me to follow."
One of the most indivualistic, innovative and influential guitarists of all time, Vai is a multiple timeGrammy Award-winner who has had a huge impact on rock and as we learned in a recent interview with Munky from Korn, also on nu-metal. Responding to a question about influences on his playing, Munky states "I'm a big Steve Vai fan because he can do it with his eyes closed, it feels like he literally makes that guitar talk. He was probably the biggest influence on my playing, he and Joe Satriani's 'Surfing With The Alien' was another big one. When Steve brought out the 'Passion and Warfare' album with the 7-string that's when I decided I had to get one of those guitars.
