Trent Reznor has reunited with the classic lineup of Nine Inch Nails at a hometown show.
Reznor was joined onstage at the Cuyahoga Falls show by former members Richard Patrick (Filter), Chris Vrenna, Danny Lohner and Charlie Clouser and the five of them played a six-song mini-set to close out the show. That six-song set featured classics of the '90s NIN era Eraser, Wish, Sin, Gave Up and Head Like A Hole as well as a Patrick-fronted version of Filter's Hey Man, Nice Shot.
All of Nine Inch Nails' current lineup - including Atticus Ross, Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini and Ilan Rubin remained onstage during these songs, resulting in an impressive wall of noise.
The day before the Ohio show, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame held a Nine Inch Nails Fan Day where all of the members that played in the six-song mini-set (including Patrick, Vrenna, Lohner and Clouser) took part in a Q&A speaking about the induction of Nine Inch Nails into the hall and looking back on the 30 years that passed since the release of their iconic, groundbreaking EP Broken.
Last year, Code Orangeropped a punishing cover of the Nine Inch Nails Quake theme. Watch a 3D character rendered version of the band crush the Trent Reznor composed theme to the 1996 first-person shooter Quake, in their own crushing style below.
The cover comes hot off the heels of the Pittsburgh hardcore quintet participating in a three-day fan expo for the iconic first-person shooter called QuakeCon, held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game's release.
Clearly a passion project for Code Orange, they've gone to great lengths to preserve the legacy of the original, intercutting gameplay footage into the video of a character exploring a medieval maze and sending monsters to meet their makers in unforgiving style. At one point guitarist, Reba Meyers even pops up to give some directions to the character.
It is another example of how Code Orange are always looking for new ways to integrate their music into new realms. The band has previously provided a theme song for WWE wrestler Bray Wyatt and collaborated with Adult Swim's Toonami for the premiere of a motion-captured animated video for Autumn and Carbine They have also performed several innovative live streams during the pandemic era, blending music and virtual elements to deliver truly unique experiences.
