Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will provide the score for the new movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem
The Academy Award-winning duo have previously scored a number of films including The Social Network, with their most recent cinematic collaboration coming in the form of the soundtrack for the 2022 film Bones and All. The duo are also set to score David Fincher's forthcoming film The Killer.
News of their scoring role for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was reportedly broken by none other than skateboarding deity, Tony Hawk. Hawk unintentionally gave his podcast an exclusive when he mentioned it during a conversation about the film, you can watch the exact moment Hawk coughed up the secret below.
Reznor and Ross's role was promptly confirmed by the film's co-director Jeff Rowe on Twitter, writing "Well now that my teenage hero @tonyhawk has leaked that my music heroes are doing this I can add that the score is absolutely AMAZING. Exhilarating, terrifying, heartbreaking, full of sounds I didn’t know existed. I don’t have the vocabulary to describe it. I love it so much"
You can watch a trailer for the film below.
Reznor and Ross won't be the first metalheads to get a crack at scoring a TMNT project, with none other than Faith No More's Mike Patton having contributed a reworked version of the cartoon's iconic theme song for the video game TMNT: Shredder's Revenge.
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon series had one of the most iconic themes of all time. An undeniably catchy piece of pop-metal, the soaring vocals, melodic leadwork and synths are 80’s pop-metal brilliance.
At Maniacs we've come to the realisation that many of our favourite cartoon theme songs are metal AF and so must be partially to blame for our ever-present worship of the genre and its gods. With this in mind, we decided to put together a list of 10 Metal AF Cartoon Theme Songs, head over and give it a listen!
