Metallica have shared a live cover of Thin Lizzy's timeless tune Borderline. The acoustic offering pays classy tribute to one of James Hetfield's favourite bands, showcasing how adept the band are at scaling things back, when the situation or the song call for it. Hetfield in particular is perfectly suited to singing this style of blues-influenced rock and he and his Metallica bandmates provide tasteful musical accompaniment to deliver a cover that pushes the tracks emotive lyrics to the forefront.
The Bordelrine performance is lifted from Metallica's recent All Within My Hands charity concert, which is available to stream now via Amazon Prime. The 2022 edition of the All Within My Hands Concert & Auction took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA on December 16th, 2022 and featured the band's first live performance of their new single Lux Æterna.
Lux Æterna is the first taste of Metallica's forthcoming full-length 72 Seasons which is due for release on Apri 13th.
The Borderline cover is not the first time that Metlallica has covered Thin Lizzy, with the band even making a video for their cover of the Irish hardrockers version of the Irish traditional folk song Whisky In The Jar back in 1998 to celebrate the release of their Garage Inc. covers collection.
