On the 15th of December in 2005, Roadrunner Records produced the metal concert to end all metal concerts, when 39 musicians, representing 25 of the biggest bands in metal, united to perform a total of 25 songs drawn from the repertoire of 19 different bands. Named Roadrunner United The Concert, this unique and unprecedented aggregation of musicians was no meek jam session, each song was studiously rehearsed and arranged, coming together with exuberant perfection, to produce a concert that has lived long in the memories of metalheads worldwide.
To celebrate the upcoming release of Roadrunner United The Concert on vinyl, Roadrunner Records have shared the full video of one of the night's standout performances, (sic) by Slipknot. The video features an unmasked Corey Taylor, Joey Jordison and Paul Gray of Slipknot teaming up with Scott Ian (Anthrax), Dino Cazares (Fear Factory/Divine Heresy), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and Tommy Vext (ex-Bad Wolves/Divine Heresy) to unleash a hellacious rendition of (sic).
The audio version of the performance premiered exclusively in the US via SiriusXM's Liquid Metal channel, with Scott Ian providing some commentary on the night.
"It was incredible to be part of a lineup of such insanely heavy hitters. WOW. And to have had the opportunity to play with Joey and Paul that night, with Corey singing — definitely a Make-A-Wish moment for me."
Conceived as a follow-up to the Roadrunner United All-Star recording sessions, the label recruited the core team of musicians (Dino Cazares, Adam Duce, Paul Gray, Joey Jordison, Andreas Kisser and Roy Mayorga) as the backbone of the performance. Sure enough, as they fine-tuned the songs and rehearsed them tirelessly, dozens of other musicians came on board.
The upcoming 3LP package, Roadrunner United The Concert set for release on March 10, represents the gathering of a community of musicians that spans the heavy metal history of the first 25 years of Roadrunner Records: from King Diamond to Slipknot and beyond. Those who were lucky enough to be there experienced a night they will never forget, this release promises a chance to relive that special night again and again.
