Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and his 10-year-old son Revel have been blowing our minds with their cover versions for months now, but on their latest upload, they've completely outdone themselves. The father-son duo have shared a brilliant cover of the mighty Mastodon's Blood And Thunder.
Revel shows his famous dad up a bit here and is surely set for a career in metal all of his own. If you dig what the Ian's have dished up here, check out their previous covers of Sepultura's Roots Bloody Roots and Territory. It won't be long until Revel is following in the footsteps of his deceased grandfather Meat Loaf and BOTH of his parents. You LOVE to see it.
In October, Mastodon released their ninth full-length studio album, Hushed And Grim their first new record since 2017’s Best Metal Performance GRAMMY® award-winning triumph Emperor of Sand. The David Bottril (Tool, Rush, Muse) produced Hushed and Grim is Mastodon’s most ambitious body of work to date, consisting of 15 disparate tracks, surveying a confluence of textures that include rock, psychedelia, punk, metal, alternative and prog interwoven by their innately expressive musical interplay. A sonic farewell to their longtime manager and friend Nick John, Hushed And Grim’s atmospheric canvas of very real loss, loneliness and longing, permeates throughout, resulting in a magnum opus that bears the influence of his eternal memory. For as much as Hushed And Grim is steeped in one of the darkest periods of the band’s career, with each member experiencing personal grief, its light shines through in a fully realized manifestation of everything Mastodon is right now. Watch the video for Teardrinker below.
In the lead up to the release of Hushed And Grim Maniacs spoke to Mastodon drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor about all things Hushed And Grim.
