Touring as a metal band is hard at the best of times, but in our current reality, it is borderline impossible, especially for smaller-scale bands. Emerging San Fransico metal act Hemorage have taken matters into their own hands, in a super-creative and DIY fashion, staging a successful run of 'shows' across the US by gatecrashing tourist destinations and major metal shows in their custom-fitted van.
The DIY punk-metal crossover act has so far staged pop-up concerts at tourist destinations and concerts across California, from Oakland to Santa Cruz, including staging a show in the car park of Oakland's Oracle Arena before a Korn and System of A Down show and even pulling up outside the Chase Arena when Bay Area icons Metallica were playing. The reception from metal fans has been positive enough that the band now have plans to expand their rogue touring operation across the rest of the country.
You can see Hemorage and their customised van in action below.
At Maniacs, we love seeing a young band taking matters into their own hands, and we're pretty bloody impressed by the custom setup of the van, which features a power supply for the band, platforms for the guitarists to stand on and QR codes to scan to find out more about the band.
Of course, when you're gatecrashing tourist spots and other concert venues, things don't always go to plan, but when things go wrong as they did at a show out the front of Pier 39 at the Hard Rock Cafe, when a security guard pulled the plug on the whole thing, at least they have the presence of mind to get good social media content out of it!
If you dig what Hemorage are doing chuck them a follow on socials @hemoragesf then have a watch of their video for Low Life below. You can also grab their tunes on Bandcamp.
