Paul Cook, Glen Matlock and Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols have announced two reunion shows with Frank Carter on vocals.
The legendary punks will perform their iconic debut album Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols on both nights to raise money to help preserve the 400-cap venue, Bush Hall in London's Shepherd's Bush. The shows will take place on August 13 and 14 this year.
The glaring absentee from the lineup for the shows is vocalist Johnny Rotten. The band has not commented publicly on the reason for Rotten's absence from the shows, which will be their first since a reunion run in 2007/2008.
Speaking on the opportunity to front this iteration of Sex Pistols, Frank Carter stated "This has been a joy from start to finish. When THE SEX PISTOLS call, you answer. I'm very excited to be a part of it."
Commenting on the shows, Cook revealed the inspiration for the shows. "We're doing a benefit for Bush Hall with the famous Frank Carter. We're going to be playing PISTOLS numbers 'cause they need support and they need the money. We thought it would be a great way to stop it going under. This is my local venue. I grew up in Shepherd's Bush and I still live round here. It would be a real shame to see it disappear and we want to keep it going. So everyone get down to the gig!" Matlock concurred "I tend to agree with Steve. Smaller music venues are the lifeblood of new music. It's in these intimate spaces that raw talent gets a chance to shine, where bands can really connect with their audiences, and where the spirit of live music truly comes alive so we need to keep them going." Steve Jones offered "If it all goes wrong, it's Paul's fucking fault."
One of the most notorious and successful punk records ever penned, Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols ignited a counter-cultural revolution in England, drawing the ire of segments of critics and conservatives, while lighting a fire in the underground that saw not just the landscape of popular music change, but the look of it too, with punk fashion spreading across the globe. Despite rampant attempts to censor the band, the record helped amplify the British punk explosion and inspire multiple generations of punks, Carter included.
