Slipknot have officially confirmed that 'Tortilla Man' is indeed percussionist Michael Pfaff. The confirmation occurred during a an AMA on Reddit. During the session, the percussionist revealed himself to be the newest official member of Slipknot and provided some fresh info on how he came to wear the Tortilla Man mask. Of course many maggots had worked this out for themselves but it was still nice to read the words from the man himself.
Pfaff answered a stack of questions in the chat, revealing that concealing his identity was pretty difficult.
It was pretty hard. These days everybody is on the internet and has a phone….you could tell a person at the grocery store and the next thing you know it’s on the internet. I flew to LA twice before my wife even knew.”
Pfaff also revealed he enjoyed following the journey by fans and media to uncover the identity of Tortilla Man prior to it being revealed.
“It was the best, watching it all unfold was amazing. The theories, the detectives. Amazing.”
When asked what the moment was that Pfaff “no longer felt like the new guy in the band and felt like you were in and actually [part] of the band”, he replied, “today”.
Pfaff’s official unveiling comes three years after he first joined the band in 2019, replacing longtime backing vocalist and percussionist Chris Fehn. Fehn left the band in April 2019 after he filed a lawsuit against the band, claiming he wasn't properly compensated for his role in Slipknot. Fehn has since withdrawn the lawsuit.
Pfaff's reveal comes amidst speculation of a new Slipknot album and a few months after the release of The Chapeltown Rag.
