Rammstein has given the first listen of a new track to an astronaut in space!
The lucky spaceman was french astronaut Thomas Pesquet who heard the song as part of a ZOOM call with Rammstein drummer Christoph 'Doom' Schneider. This unfathomably cool method of debuting new material is another example of Rammstein's unorthodox approach to...well let's be honest here, pretty much everything!
Schneider reflected on the experience on the band's Instagram where he also shared some footage of Pesquet reacting to the song as it was played.
“It felt like a child’s dream coming true for me – talking to a person living in the sky, sharing a glimpse of his view, realizing again how small we all are compared to the depth of the universe”
"He was the first to listen to one of our new songs from the upcoming album. It premiered in the sky, which is an honor for us.”
You can hear part of the as-yet-untitled song and see Pesquet's reactions in the fourth slide of the post!
In more good news for Rammstein fans, it appears you won't need to wait another decade for the next Rammstein album! In an interview with the German site Motor.de, keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz said that once concerts disappeared due to COVID, the band ended up recording an album they hadn't planned on:
“The fact that we couldn’t perform live increased our creativity. We had more time to think of new things and less distraction. As a result, we recorded a record that we hadn’t planned on.”
Additionally, the band had the honour of having their song Ich Will used as the official team anthem for the German Paralympic Team earlier this year.
Whether on earth or up in the sky, there is only one Rammstein!
