It's Friday, Friday, got to get your fresh metal fix on Friday. That's right Maniacs it is finally Friday which means it is time to kick off the weekend with some Friday Fire.
With so many new metal releases dropping every week, it can be hard to know what to listen to, so we've taken it upon ourselves to do the heavy lifting, sorting the 'hell yeah' from the 'hell meh' you don't have to. So without fear or favour, here are is our Friday Fire: Five New Tracks We're Feeling This Friday.
Meshuggah- The Abysmal Eye
Extreme tech metal demigods Meshuggah have returned with the monolithic new single, The Abysmal Eye. The Abysmal Eye is the first taster single from their upcoming ninth studio manifest, Immutable, due to drop worldwide via Atomic Fire on April 1st, 2022! This track is everything that is so damn good about Meshuggah! If you dig it, which we know you will, head on over and preorder Immutable!
Thornhill- Arkangel
After appeasing the masses with Casanova in October, Thornhill return with their pulsing new single Arkangel. This track takes Thornhill up another level and adds further proof that they've stepped into an inspired new era both musically and visually. This is forward-thinking and nostalgic at the same time and it is anthemic as hell. We are very curious as to what comes next, but what has come so far is pure fire.
Ibaraki - Tamashii No Houkai
The first single from Matt Heafy's long-awaited black metal project, Ibaraki, Tamashii No Houkai is a six-minute storm of black metal majesty featuring genre icon Ihsahn (Emperor). Arriving accompanied by an artsy, Samurai starring, black and white video, this was well and truly worth being patient for. More please, Mr Heafy!
Loathe & Teenage Wrist - Is It Really You?
Loathe and Teenage Wrist come together in imperfect harmony to create a fuzz-drenched, hauntingly beautiful piece of reflective yet heavy alt-rock with distinctive shoegaze leanings. The '90s vibes are strong on this, with the two somehow managing to channel both Deftones and Sunny Day Real Estate at the same damn time without ever losing their individuality. After hearing Is It Really You? we'd be lying if we didn't say we want to hear a whole record or at least a collaborative EP from these two rising stars.
Vein.fm- Fear In Non Fiction (ft. Geoff Rickly of Thursday)
It is only three weeks since Vein.fm ignited Friday Fire last, but this absolutely incendiary collab with Geoff Rickly of Thursday can not be ignored. Fear In Non Fiction is a menacing metalcore meets nu-metal meets post-hardcore piece of creative expressionism that will leave you breathless the first time you listen to it. Vein.fm's gleaming, sputtering brutality makes odd but perfectly fitting bedfellows with Rickly's soaring, unique, emotion fuelled vocals that come in halfway through. This is inspired stuff. We can't wait for This World Is Going To Ruin You to drop.
