Rap-rock veterans P.O.D have teamed up with Randy Blythe of Lamb of God to drop the bouncy new anthe, Drop.
The San Diego icons and the Virginian metal demigod lock in on a big groove on Drop delivering an instantly memorable moment for fans.
Speaking about the track P.O.D frontman Sonny Sandoval states "Drop' is another one-of-a-kind, unparalleled banger that sets this band apart from everyone else, when you hear it, you know it's P.O.D.!"
Guitarist Marcos Curiel is equally enthused by the collaborative effort which was apparently inspired by his love of drops in electronic music. "Dude, it's the sickest thing ever, when that drop hits, everyone knows it. "We needed to create a song in that way… P.O.D. style."
Unsurpisingly for fans of Lamb of God, Blythe sounds absolutely menacing when he cuts in, creating a uniquely viscous moment in the P.O.D catalogue.
Drop is lifted from P.O.D's forthcoming full-length Veritas which will be released in 2024. In a recent interview with V100, Curiel revealed that Blythe won't be the only guest on the record, with Jinjer vocalist Tatiana Shmailyuk and former Saosin/Scary Kids Scaring Kids and current Dead American vocalist Cove Reber also set to feature on tracks.
“The new record’s called ‘Veritas‘. It’s the old Latin dialect. You know, the old one that the priests are laying down when people are demonly possessed. It stands for truth. It’s our truth because we wrote this record during the pandemic. Individually and collectively, it’s our truth as a band, what we’ve been through, what we’ve all been through during that time, dude. I can’t wait for you guys to hear it, man. It’s pretty cool. We also got Tatiana [Shmailyuk] from Jinjer on a track. And we have Cove Reber. He sang for Scary Kids [Scaring Kids] and Saosin. And he also sings in a new band called Dead American. He’s on a track.”
The collaborative effort isn't the first time P.O.D have roped in guests. Earlier this year footage resurfaced of none other than Katy Perry performing with the band.
P.O.D invited Perry to record backing vocals on their track Goodbye For Now which would go on to appear on their 2006 record Testify.
The union of Christan nu-metal and Christian pop starlet worked a treat, with Perry's (at that stage underappreciated) powerhouse vocals providing the perfect accompaniment to P.O.D. frontman Sonny Sandoval's melodies.
The track went on to be chosen as the album's lead single, meaning that P.O.D, still riding high on the crest of their breakout hits Alive, Youth of the Nation and Boom were invited to perform the song live on the TV show CD: USA. Hoping to give the best performance they could, they invited Perry to join them for the performance, Perry graciously accepted and unbeknownst to them, CD: USA viewers got their first look at an artist who would go on to dominate the pop charts for over a decade.

Still active and playing to a legion of dedicated fans, P.O.D have continued to prosper, releasing their tenth studio album Circles in 2018. During the press campaign for Circles, Sandoval reflected on the group's unlikely brush with a popstar on the brink of stardom stating to the San Diego-Union Tribune "I don’t know Katy Perry the diva, I know Katy Perry the tomboy who came in acting like one of us, picking her nose and being goofy, having dinner with us and we’d sit around like a family. That’s the kid I know. And she went on to become Katy Perry, which is crazy. But when you’re around 26 years you see it all.”
Lamb Of God released the massive album Omens last year. Omens follows 2020’s self-titled effort with a vicious new testament. Riding high on a creative renaissance, the Grammy-nominated goliath returns with the gloriously unhinged Omens, produced by long-time collaborator Josh Wilbur (Korn, Megadeth) Densely muscular, soaked in unnerving spite, with a pessimistic eye toward inner struggles and global affairs alike, Omens is a furious entry in the Lamb Of God catalogue, perhaps their angriest album yet. Prior to release Blythe revealed why. "The world is crazy and keeps changing. Omens is a reaction to the state of the world,” . It’s a very pissed-off record. It is extremely pissed-off.”
