Melbourne metalcore outfit Windwaker will bring their captivating live show to the stage of Knotfest Australia this week.
Armed with a brand new four-song EP Enter The Wall the band will take their place on the mammoth lineup, showcasing their latest creation amongst legends Pantera, Disturbed, Lamb of God, Halestorm and more. It's a massive slot for a band who have been on a steady ascent over the past few years and if the material on Enter The Wall is anything to judge it by, they are more than ready to take advantage of this latest monumental moment.
Lead single The Wall's fusion of technical guitars with sporadic synths makes the song unsettling yet satisfying. The song is built around a southern hip-hop groove led with a mixture of gravely raps and manic screams, evolving around a backdrop of unrelenting metal passages. The track is as fun as it is fierce.
Lyrically, the song is a "reference to staring absently into a void," the band states. Windwaker continue. "It's the moment when reality crumbles away around you, leaving you with nothing but your own thoughts. Visually, it paints the picture of a person sitting in a dimly lit room at night as a black hole mercilessly sucks away the environment around them piece by piece. The main hook repeats twice in the same way a thought circulates in your mind. It always leads back to the same conclusion, setting off that thought again, and again, and again..."
Windwaker - Liam Guinane [vocals] Jesse Crofts [guitar], Indey Salvestro [bass], Chris Lalic [drums, programming], and Connor Robins [synths and samples] —have grown a dedicated and passionate fanbase, amassing millions of digital streams since their inception in 2017. SIRENS has cracked over 2 million Spotify streams in just a few months and saw the band travel across the nation in celebration on the Love In The Dark tour with Caskets (UK) and alt., selling out nearly every date along the way.
The band’s debut album Love Language released in 2022 via Cooking Vinyl Australia & Fearless Records, demonstrating an unpredictable and undeniable exploration of love across 12 tracks. The band have carved their name into the core of Australia’s alternative music community and have toured alongside some of metal’s most favoured acts— Beartooth (US), I Prevail (US), Motionless In White (US), Enter Shikari (UK), Caskets (UK), Creeper (UK), Northlane and more.
To celebrate the arrival of Enter The Wall and the band's appearance on Knotfest Australia we caught up with Windwaker to find out which bands they think you cannot afford to miss at Knotfest.
This is Windwaker's five bands 'knot' to miss at Knotfest this week.
5 Band's Knot To Miss At Knotfest Australia 2024 with Windwaker
Lamb of God (Liam) - "Lamb Of God was my entry into scream-based music. I have enjoyed every release of theirs going all the way back to New American Gospel and still haven’t seen them live yet so I am very keen to catch them on this run!"
SPEED (Connor) - "I’m super keen to see SPEED - they’re taking the Australian heavy scene to a new global level at the moment – and also because Kourtney Kardashian backs them."
Disturbed (Chris) - "Because I can’t go my whole life without hearing David Draiman do the thing at least once in person."
Asking Alexandria (Indey) - "I mean they practically started my metalcore obsession in high school – they’re a pleasure, not even guilty. Same goes for Escape the Fate."
Halestorm (Liam) - "It’s been a few years since the last time I saw Halestorm crush an Australian music festival but I’m looking forward to seeing them do it again on the big stage this time. Lzzy Hale is an absolute beast!"
Enter The Wall is out now via Fearless Records/Cooking Vinyl.
