Aimée Osbourne (daughter of metal god Ozzy), has released her first new song in two years under the alias ARO. Titled Against Mine it is a dark euphoric pop gem that showcases her own unique artistry.
Watch the video for Against Mine below.
While Against Mine doesn't sound anything like her old man's artistic output with either Black Sabbath or as a solo artist, it does showcase ARO's haunting vocal capabilities and capacity to conjure art from dark confines, a couple of traits you could argue are influenced a little by genetics. Speaking to Rolling Stone, ARO shared some insight into Against Mine's inspiration.
"Against Mine was written to capture the element of frustration that comes with not feeling like you can actually express how you really feel about someone, and then if you do, how they pull away, even though they might feel the same way, the ebbing and flow of that were fascinating to me."
ARO also opened up on the nature of her relationship with her father, the Prince Of Darkness himself, paying tribute to his unending dedication to music and indicating that he is not only receptive to her musical output but that it has helped strengthen the bond between them.
“My dad has responded really positively to a lot of it", "It’s been a really fun way to connect with him about being in the same industry now. He is so dedicated and his ability to continue working and creating, his appetite for that is so admirable, it’s unbelievable."
“Nothing stands in his way when it comes to anything creative, whether it’s painting, writing lyrics, melodies. From the minute he’s awake to when he goes to sleep, that’s what he does. And so to have that as an example has been such a gift, and to feel like something to live up to has been a great way to connect with him.”
Speaking of Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford recently declared Black Sabbath's Paranoid the best song of all time. Explaining his decision to give Paranoid the nod, Halford offers some insight into the impact the song had on him personally as a fledgling metalhead.
'Paranoid' is my No. 1 song. I'll tell you guys, all of these 10 are my No. 1 — but we have to do lists, right? So, at the top of the list is 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath. It was one of these game-changing moments that we have in music because it brought out and brought forth a genre and a style of music that lit up the world. Particularly for me as a young musician at the time, 'Paranoid' just took off like a heavy metal rocket."
