Hard rockers Halestorm are set to release Back From The Dead on Friday. Ahead of a new feature interview with Lzzy Hale which will drop later this week, we look back on Maniacs' long history with Halestorm.
We kickstart our Halestorm nostalgia trip with this interview with Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger from way back when they made their first Australian tour.
We were also lucky enough to have Halestorm provide us with an exclusive live performance at The Artist Centre in Sydney.
Lzzy was also kind enough to do us our very own guitar tutorial.
Lzzy was also kind enough to give us a list of her five favourite hard rock albums of all time and join us for an interview in 2019.
We also put together this list of 10 Biggest Songs by Halestorm to help you pregame for the arrival of Back From The Dead
Back From The Dead, their fifth studio album will be out on May 6th! The follow-up to 2018’s Vicious, which debuted at #16 on the ARIA chart. Back From The Dead is available for all of you Maniacs to pre-save and pre-order now.
Produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Mastodon, Alice in Chains) with co-production by Scott Stevens (Shinedown, Daughtry, New Year’s Day), Back From The Dead quickly evolved from songwriting exercises into a matter of survival for the band.
Lead singer Lzzy Hale says,
“We started writing this album about three months B.C. (Before COVID). Once we went into lockdown and were unable to perform and tour, I fell into a dark place and something of an identity crisis. This album is the story of me carving myself out of that abyss. It is a journey of navigating mental health, debauchery, survival, redemption, rediscovery, and still maintaining faith in humanity.”
Our second taste from the record, following last year's Back From The Dead, The Steeple is a trademark hard-rockin' belter from Halestorm that showcases Lzzy Hale's gritty voice and celebrates the joy of being back making music in positively anthemic style.
Listen to The Steeple below.
The Steeple's celebratory vibe locks in perfectly with the previous single Back From The Dead which Lzzy explained was inspired by resilience and survival.
Back From the Dead’ is about survival, not in a physical sense, even though I know we all have been touched by death especially these last few years. This song is personal and written from a mental health perspective. I wanted to give myself and the world a hard rock song we could shout out loud as the gates opened again. I was on the edge of this world getting completely lost in oblivion, but even though it was the harder of two choices, I didn’t just let the darkness and depression in my mind dig me an early grave. I didn’t just sit and let it take me. I’ve erased my name from my headstone, so save your prayers, I’m back! I hope this song, as I pass it on to you, reminds YOU of your strength individually and that you are not alone.”
It's a pair of positive affirmations from a band that has grown from a childhood dream of siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale into a fully realised rock phenomenon that has surpassed a billion streams worldwide.
Fronted by the incomparable Lzzy Hale with drummer Arejay Hale, guitarist Joe Hottinger, and bass player Josh Smith, Halestorm has earned a reputation as a powerful live music force, headlining sold-out shows and topping festival bills around the world, and sharing the stage with icons including Heaven & Hell, Alice Cooper, and Joan Jett. The band was named the Rock Artist of the Decade by Loudwire in 2019.
