Whether you're senselessly throttling your skull at the front of the mosh or low key worshipping Satan in the backroom of your parents house, most of us can agree that our favourite tunes are best enjoyed with a glass of the good stuff, alcohol. So we've gone and curated our very own Maniacs list of your favourite genres, re-imagined as alcohol.
Hard Rock - Whisky & Coke
An overall crowd-pleaser, it's not too heavy or complex but guarantees a good time all round. It can vary from mix to mix but generally you can go back to it time and time again and always be satisfied.
Recommended listening: AC/DC - Back In Black
Death Metal - Long Island Iced Tea
A heady mix of tequila, vodka, rum, triple sec and gin, the Long Island Iced Tea is rarely popular with the novice and is often attributed to extreme acts of violence. It is finished with a splash of cola to mask its somewhat grotesque appearance with intense darkness. If you listen to death metal or drink Long Island Iced Teas, you take your shit seriously.
Recommended Listening: Death - Symbolic
Rap Metal - Tequila
Both tequila and rap metal are things that will always divide a crowd. You either love it with overwhelming affection or hate it with an absolute passion. For some, it's brought about some memorable times, like Rage Against the Machine covering Cypress Hill, but for most people, it should be avoided for the sake of all involved.
Recommended Listening: Body Count - Manslaughter
Glam Metal - Cosmopolitan
Made with vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and lime, the Cosmopolitan, similar to glam metal is all for show and often goes down better with the ladies. You'd never admit to liking it but when you're at your girlfriend's 80's themed birthday and you want to get the party started, it's a guarantee.
Recommended Listening: Motley Crue - Shout At The Devil
Stoner Rock - Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
Stoner rock or desert rock, is the groove-laden illegitimate child of heavy metal and psychedelic rock. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a uniquely hazy brew from California, the breeding ground of quality beer and desert rock.
Recommended Listening: Down - NOLA
Alternative Metal - Boilermaker
Emerging in the 90's with bands like Slipknot and Deftones, alternative metal combines the heavy guitars of metal with elements of heavy rock. The legendary Boilermaker consists of a beer served with a shot of whisky, just like alternative metal, it brings out the best in both worlds.
Recommended Listening: Deftones - White Pony
Punk - Vodka Red Bull
It's a fast-moving, aggressive mix that makes its mark early on. Not unlike one of punk's founding fathers, Johnny Rotten, it has a sickly orange tinge. It will give you a buzz like nothing else and elicit anarchy in even the most civilised person but more often than not, it leads to destruction.
Recommended Listening: Rancid - ...And Out Come The Wolves
Pirate Metal - Kraken Spiced Rum
Now this me hearties is just for a wee bit of fun. But the swashbuckling riffs and lyrics of pirate metal are reminiscent of a drink that's dark and stormy like the sea and named after the mythical creature that inhabits it. Both are probably just an excellent marketing gimmick but damn they make one delicious cocktail.
Recommended Listening: Alestorm - Sunset on the Golden Age
