Trivium have been dipping into their past a lot lately with Deepest Cuts livestream shows, and now frontman Matt Heafy has taken to his Twitch channel to share the VERY first Trivium recordings from when he was only 13 years old!
The earliest demos obviously sound really rough as it was recorded in Travis Smith's basement (their first drummer) on some pretty basic gear, but Matt's vocals sound like a mix of Dave Mustaine and James Hetfield, and honestly aren't that bad considering he was so young.
Heafy plays multiple demo songs for his Twitch viewers from 1999-2002 including a cover of Pantera's 'This Love', with a super old photo of the band appearing on screen for a good part of the video. It's a fascinating peek into Trivium's earliest days, and Matt is an excellent sport to share the rough demos - have a watch below:
One thing is for certain - Trivium quickly improved after these demos, releasing Ember To Inferno and signing to Roadrunner Records in 2004 at a still very young age.
And they're still putting out bangers today, with their 2020 album What The Dead Men Say being lauded by both fans and critics alike. They've definitely come a long way, and it's a nice reminder that we've all gotta start somewhere!
Listen to Trivium now.
