Perth’s metal titans Make Them Suffer have shared their mammoth new single Contraband featuring Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox, out now via Greyscale / Rise Records.

This dynamic slice of metalcore creeps to life with a chilling piano melody as pianist/vocalist Booka Nile takes centre stage in one of Make Them Suffer's most melodic choruses to date.  MTS frontman Sean Harmanis and LaPlante complement each other perfectly with verses built to melt faces everywhere.

Contraband is a restrained political song that traverses themes of relationships with friends, family and the continuing frustrations surrounding the pandemic, the single premiered on triple j Good Nights earlier this week and the video can be viewed below.

“We’d actually had ‘Contraband’ in the bank since way back in 2016,” starts Harmanis. “As the song began to come together, we decided that it was a great opportunity to include Make Them Suffer’s first ever guest feature, and we couldn’t have picked anyone better than Courtney! Courtney was a joy to work with and showed such a great enthusiasm toward the song and her parts.

"Lyrically the song is about everything and nothing at the same time. It’s about relationships with friends and family, but also a low-key political song, as well as an expression of the frustrations surrounding COVID-19 and its impact on our lives, particularly as members of the music community. 'Contraband' is a buildup, the result of two years without musical catharsis."

Contraband was produced remotely by Drew Fulk, who was also at the helm of their 2020 album, How To Survive A Funeral, which debuted at #17 on the ARIA Chart and has been nominated for Best Heavy Independent Album at the 2021 AIR Awards. Make Them Suffer will return to the stage next month, appearing at Full Tilt Festival.
