One of Melbourne's most iconic music venues Festival Hall has been acquired by Hillsong Church.
The 5000-capacity venue which has been home to countless unforgettable shows over the years will now face a "complete renovation" and will play home to Hillsong Church services every Sunday.
Hillsong founder Brian Houston says that the venue was purchased under a new entity called Community Venues Pty Ltd, while state pastors Tim and Nicola Douglass also noting that Festival Hall will still host live events in addition to the Sunday services:
“It has served the people of this city in different events over the years, and it’s going to continue to do that. We just get to be the church who purchases it", says Tim Douglass.
With Hillsong at the helm of it now, it's probably a safe bet that music on the heavier end of the spectrum faces the real possibility of not appearing there anymore.
