Deftones held their second annual Dia de los Deftones festival in their home state of California over the weekend, which included an ecclectic lineup of bands like Gojira, CHVRCHES, Youth Code and others this time around.
What came as somewhat of a surprise, though, was to see Deftones break out 'Smile' during their set for the first time ever.
The rare track was released in 2014 on the one year anniversary of late bassist Chi Cheng's death, and is the only song to be released from their 2008 album Eros, which was shelved after Cheng was involved in a car accident and left in a coma.
Watch fan-shot footage of the song's live debut below:
Deftones have been working on the follow-up their last album Gore throughout 2019, and while we were led to believe there would be new music for us this year, Chino recently told San Diego TV station NBC 7 that the record will "definitely be out next year", and has previously said it'll be remeniscent of their seminal record White Pony. Hype!
