Code Orange have dropped a punishing cover of the Nine Inch Nails Quake theme.
Watch a 3D character rendered version of the band crush the Trent Reznor composed theme to the 1996 first-person shooter Quake, in their own crushing style below.
The cover comes hot off the heels of the Pittsburgh hardcore quintet participating in a three-day fan expo for the iconic first-person shooter called QuakeCon, held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game's release.
Clearly a passion project for Code Orange, they've gone to great lengths to preserve the legacy of the original, intercutting gameplay footage into the video of a character exploring a medieval maze and sending monsters to meet their makers in unforgiving style. At one point guitarist, Reba Meyers even pops up to give some directions to the character.
It is another example of how Code Orange are always looking for new ways to integrate their music into new realms. The band has previously provided a theme song for WWE wrestler Bray Wyatt and collaborated with Adult Swim's Toonami for the premiere of a motion-captured animated video for Autumn and Carbine They have also performed several innovative live streams during the pandemic era, blending music and virtual elements to deliver truly unique experiences.
The level of commitment they display is also a fitting tribute to the spirit of the original, which Reznor composed for free due to mutual respect between himself and the games developers iD games.
One of the most exciting bands in modern heavy music, Code Orange's latest album Underneath is out now via Roadrunner Records.
