In some devastating news, Children Of Bodom founding frontman Alexi Laiho has passed away at only age 41. While the specific cause of death has not been revealed, he reportedly passed 'suddenly' last week at his Helsinki home following 'long term health issues'.
Laiho founded Children Of Bodom in 1993, who became one of Finland's biggest artists of all time before they split in 2019. Alexi then formed Bodom After Midnight with fellow COB guitarist Daniel Fryberg, and the group recorded three songs which will now be released posthumously later in 2021.
His Bodom After Midnight bandmates released a statement which reads:
"It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we have to announce the passing of Alexi Laiho. We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken for the sudden loss of our dear friend and band member."
Alexi's wife Kelli Laiho-Wright said:
"Alexi was the most loving and magnificent husband and father. Our hearts are eternally broken."
Alexi Laiho was widely regarded as one of the best and fastest metal guitarists in the world. A huge loss for music, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans.
