Late Deftones bassist Chi Cheng will be having his second spoken word album posthumously released in January 2021. It's titled The Head Up Project, and will feature 24 tracks that were recorded in January 2001 during a performance of his at Sacramento, marking its release 20 years after its initial recording.
The album is being released in conjunction with Buckle Up For Chi, an organisation formed in his memory and to promote seatbelt safety, and Qumran Records, who remastered the tracks for the upcoming release.
A statement from Buckle Up For Chi reads:
"Buckle Up For Chi has always been blessed to keep Chi's legacy alive and we strive to continue to do so with the launch of the Head Up Project.
Through this initiative and our loyal community, we will continue to support each other, spread peace, music, love, and as always: fly high. We hold close and keep to the tenets that Chi stood for: caring, kindness and empathy. We continue to honor those ideas, Chi's legacy, and thank you all for being apart of the Buckle Up for Chi community."
Chi Cheng's first spoken word album, The Bamboo Parachute, was self-released in 2000 and sold at select Deftones concerts that year.

Cheng tragically passed away in 2013 after spending five years in a semi-comatose state as the result of a vehicle accident.
