'00s icons turned alt-pop superstars Panic! At The Disco are set to call it a day. The group's last remaining member, Brendon Urie has decided to call time on the project he has fronted since 2004, in order to concentrate on the next phase of his life as a husband and father.
Urie made the announcement via a statement on Instagram, revealing the exciting news of his impending fatherhood in the process of explaining the decision to bring Panic! At The Disco's glorious career to an end.
"Growing up in Vegas I could’ve never imagined where this life would take me. So many places all over the world, and all the friends we’ve made along the way.
But sometimes a journey must end for a new one to begin. We’ve been trying to keep it to ourselves, though some of you may have heard.. Sarah and I are expecting a baby very soon! The prospect of being a father and getting to watch my wife become a mother is both humbling and exciting. I look forward to this next adventure.
That said, I am going to bring this chapter of my life to an end and put my focus and energy on my family, and with that Panic! At The Disco will be no more.
Thank you all for your immense support over the years. I’ve sat here trying to come up with the perfect way to say this and I truly can’t put into words how much it has meant to us. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or are just finding us, it has been a pleasure to not only share the stage with so many talented people but also share our time with you. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Europe and the UK for one last run together.
I love you. I appreciate you. Thank you for existing.
Brendon"
Urie's decision to walk away from Panic! At The Disco follows the release of 2022's now final full-length Viva Las Vengeance.
During their nearly 20-year run as a band, Panic! At The Disco soared to dizzying heights. First rising to prominence thanks to their 2005 debut full-length A Fever You Can't Sweat Out. Recorded when they were still teenagers, the record was home to a run of successful singles including the megasmash I Write Sins, Not Tragedies, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out went triple-platinum in the USA, selling more than three million copies and spent 88 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts. The success of A Fever You Can't Sweat Out set Panic! At The Disco up for sustained success, with subsequent records Pretty. Odd, Vices & Virtues, Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! achieving considerable sales milestones.
Despite the gradual exit of his bandmates, Urie continued to achieve enormous critical and commercial success under the Panic! At The Disco moniker, with the talented vocalist and multi-instrumentalist releasing Death Of A Bachelor, Pray For The Wicked and Viva Las Vengeance as the sole official member of the project, with Pray For The Wicked containing the highest-charted single of Panic! At The Disco's career, High Hopes which rose as high as number 4 in on the US Billboard charts.
Urie intends on closing out his time as Panic! At The Disco at the culmination of their current Viva Las Vengeance tour.
