Zombie apocalypse movies. We'veall seen one in our cinematic life and as is the same with anything repetitive they can be rather uninspiring. World War Z has a clear head start over its predecessors with the mighty Brad Pitt playing lead role.
I have had hugely contrasting experiences with director Marc Fosters films. He previously shot The Kite Runner, one of my all-time favourites, whilst also rolling tape on the largely disappointing Quantum Of Solace.
There has been much in the media about a bumpy ride on the road to the production of what is the most expensive movie of its kind and the film does partly reflect that. There is no prolonging the inevitable as the film leaps straight into action with an emphatic opening scene.
There are some high-strung moments which get a unanimous jump throughout the theatre which is credit where its due to the CGI team. Not to forget the investors. Graphically the zombies outgun any I have previously witnessed and really do help this film to stand out from the crowd.
I can often find myself drifting towards off-topic thoughts at the pictures but there was rarely a moment within the action scenes that Iwasn'tfully gripped.
Not having read the book I cant comment on the likeness to it but there was a definitive feeling, other than the finding of the cure, that the story lacks much imagination. But for what its worth this is the sort of motion picture that is more effect than substance. Some may use the clich; less is more and may well be spot on this time around.
It get’s a 6/10 from me!
