With Halloween season upon us, it's the perfect time to crack out some dark and heavy records to get you right into the spirit!
There are probably hundreds of great metal/rock albums to jam around Halloween, but these are five of our picks; let us know what you're spinning to get spooky!
Korn - Self Titled
Korn's 1994 debut self-titled came about when the band members were at dark points in their lives, and the music is a pretty real representation of that - unqiue, creepy and sometimes disturbing moments can be found all throughout the record which come to an unsettling climax on the track 'Daddy'.
While it's not a direct reference to anything Halloween, this iconic record has found its place on the turntable for the holiday.
Korn also covered 'Kidnap the Sandy Claws' for the Nightmare Revisited soundtrack celebrating the 15th anniversary of The Nightmare Before Christmas!
Rob Zombie - Hellbilly Deluxe
Rob Zombie's 1998 debut album just oozes tongue-in-cheek Halloween fun the same way a B-grade horror movie does - from the eerie opener featuring a disturbing sample of a little girl talking about pain and suffering, to the simple but infectious rock disco vibes - if you don't give this at least one spin this Halloween, was it even Halloween at all?
Hellbilly Deluxe's legacy still lives on in 2019; Universal Studios in Orlando opened up a Halloween scare attraction based on this album's recordings this year!
Ice Nine Kills - The Silver Scream
Easily the most recent entry to this list, Boston metalcore band Ice Nine Kills have based their entire career around paying tribute to their favourite horror films, and doing a damn good job of it too.
The Silver Scream - their latest album from last year - is a fantastic collection of heavy and sinister tracks which are based around classics like Stephen King's IT, Scream, Friday the 13th and countless other stories.
Their music videos are pretty elaborate too, turning into mini movies themselves. Check out 'IT is The End' below to see what we mean:
Darkthrone - Transylvanian Hunger
There's nothing like a session of True Norwegian Black Metal to turn your world into a bleak, grim and desolate landscape, which is why it's perfect if you like your Halloween extra dark!
Turn out the lights, light the candles and sit around the stereo with some friends while you let this classic 1994 record from Darkthrone wash over you with its icy assault.
Ghost - Opus Eponymous
While Ghost's first album Opus Eponymous may not be as heavy as our other entries, it still sits firmly in this list as perhaps the catchiest soundtrack to the end of the world we've heard.
Plenty of 70's prog-inspired riffs and creepy, choral vocals from Tobias Forge make it a perfect record to throw on at that Halloween party you're hosting, or even in the background while you're pumpkin carving.
Let's not forget those amazing Papa Emeritus and Nameless Ghoul costumes either, which have inspired countless imitations every October!
