Wes Borland's had a busy year, dropping the first new Limp Bizkit album in a decade, playing shows and just going about the business of being a bonafide nu-metal icon, so it is not surprising that he'd be keen to get up in that festive spirit, having a lot to celebrate and all, what is surprising though is that he had time to record and release a Christmas album with his side project Big Dumb Face but that's just what he has done.
The record, Christmas In The Cave Of Dagoth is the holiday album of your festive fever dreams. Featuring 12 wildly experimental and varied tracks that hop's genres faster than Santa Claus travels the globe, the record is Borland's wildly creative imagination in full-flight. Full of pitch-shifted vocals, programmed drums, guitar virtuosity and wild lyricism, Christmas In The Cave Of Dagoth does everything you'd expect from Big Dumb Face yet nothing when you'd expect it.
Featuring track titles Your Grandma Got You Khaki Slacks, Lost In A Forest Of Christmas Trees and The Possession of Leslie Bibb it is quite apparent that this is one big ol' jolly musical laugh for Borland, a fact he confirmed talking about the record on Instagram.
"Mission statement and big dumb plug for my project BIG dumb FACE: BDF has always been about being filterless, quickly clever, fast, and most importantly dumb. Influenced by death metal, calypso, electronic, Hawaiian music and artists like Negativland, Ween, Mr. Bungle, Secret Chiefs 3, John Zorn, Moist Boys, and John Wayne's Texas Funeral, I've always tried to capture the moment while incorporating field recordings and studio work in order to make records in an incredibly short amount of time while maintaining a storyline and world of characters that mostly connects but can also break its own rules. Outside of a few previously harvested bits and pieces, most of the [third] record was made in 3 weeks. My shortest and most inspired time frame yet on an LP... This is my outlet, it's an auditory cartoon, it's ridiculous and fun. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do. Thanks for listening.""
The first Big Dumb Face record since 2017's Where Is Duke Lion? He's Dead... Christmas In The Cave Of Dagoth is out now, just in time for your work Christmas party!
