Weezer have dropped a new record. Yep, Island In The Sun Weezer. The band’s fifteenth studio album, Van Weezer, was produced by Suzy Shinn (Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy) and draws on classic rock influences with some tracks such as Beginning Of The End containing a wild Van Halen-esk solo and visuals that look like they were directed by members of KISS.
It’s no surprise as in his earliest years voaclist, Rivers Cuomo, was a huge KISS fan. The rest of the band also worshipped bands like Metallica, Van Halen and Rush. The last time this vein of harder rock was mined by Weezer was on their much-loved 2002 album Maladroit. Van Weezer encompasses the spirit of rock n' roll and may jog memories of dreaming about being a rockstar when you were a kid.
Van Weezer features the first properly recorded version of a song called Sheila Can Do It, originally written during the Pinkerton era of 1996. It also features the song Blue Dream, which was first heard in a Simpsons episode last year and a video for the second track, All The Good Ones animated by the cartoon Bob's Burgers' Jay Howell.
Van Weezer follows the release of the band’s first-ever orchestral album, OK Human, earlier this year.
