It appears as though waiting 13 years to release their new album Fear Inoculum and staying off streaming platforms has created a crazy level of hype amongst Tool fans, because the new album has landed at #1 on charts in Australia, Norway, Belgium, New Zealand and the coveted Billboard charts in the US, where they unseated Taylor Swift's new record Lover from the top of the pile.
Fear Inoculum moved 270,000 units in the US alone in its first week, which is a huge amount for any artist in 2019, let alone progressive rock/metal. 248,000 of those were physical album sales, and when you factor in that Tool were slinging their ultra-expensive deluxe CD version in sold-out quantities as well, you could probably call it a very successful album release for the band.
Now that you've had some time to spend with Fear Inoculum, what do you think of it?
We're just hoping we don't have to wait another 13 years for the next one - the band would all be nearing 70 years old by that point!
Listen to Tool now.
