For many heavy music lovers, The Amity Affliction have become the soundtrack behind many memories, good and bad for nearly a decade and a half. The band’s trademark blend of passionate hardcore screams, anthemic soaring cleans and massive metalcore soundscapes bring out the ferocity and the sensitivity of their fans in equal measure. A band that can activate a pit, as readily as they can inspire a heartfelt tear, the guys from Gympie have a fond place in the hearts and minds of a legion of fans both home and abroad.
At Maniacs we consider ourselves to be among those fans, forever a pack of metal-loving yet emo kids at heart, there has always been something so cathartic about the bands musical and lyrical content. For the most part, Amity's songs speak of depression, isolation, and the trials and tribulations of life. They don't pretend to be anything they're not and the result is the listener feeling more understood and therefore, less alone.
Following the band’s surprise drop of the new track Give Up The Ghost we went on a nostalgia-fueled deep dive through the band’s back catalogue in a quest to decide the ten best Amity Affliction songs of all time. We chickened out at putting them in order though, so we just went with chronological, but you’re more than free to do so yourselves and let us know.
