French electronic-metal outfitThe Algorithm (who is Remi Gallego) is definitely an artist to keep your eye on. He just released his second albumOctopus4 and recently spoke toAMH Network about how his project came about, what it’s been like for him to tour Australia and what he’s up to next!
On How His Project Started
The Frenchman has a fitting story of how the musical concept began. I started the project in 2009 when I was studying Computer Science, and I was really inspired by technology and programming Gallego states with a continued inflection. I wanted to make something inspired by that universe, and at the time algorithms were something I was involved in everyday which [accounts for] the electronic and glitchy [structure] and what not.
On Playing In Australia
I didnt even expect to play at Big Day Out, especially because it was the first timeThe Algorithmwent to Australia the 24-year old says shockingly. It was a big chance for me to play with big acts and be part of the festival.
It was really interesting though, after the response I felt like I needed to go back to Australia to do proper tour, and during the Big Day Out we had an offer to come back for one month withTwelve Foot Ninja[on the Troll Burger tour] so I immediately said yes.
On His New Record Octopus4
Gallego describes the main themes of the new record. It has a concept and a story, and it is a really stupid [The European laughs], its definitely not meant to be serious he says with fear of prejudice. In a nutshell,Octopus4is the name of a computer virus, and it turns people into Will Smith. Its a bit of a piss-take to concept albums that take things a bit too seriously.
On What’s Next!
One of the games is calledSuper Mutant Alien Assaultwhich, as the name suggests is a game about aliens, so Im writing the electronic tracks for that game.
Im very excited to hear my own music while I play a game. Im a huge gamer myself, so its something that I [have] always dreamt about doing.
