It's been a long time between drinks, but Norwegian extreme metallers Dimmu Borgir have announced that their new album Eonian is due for release on Friday 4 May. Now that we think of it, it's only fitting that we get a new album for the band's 25th birthday!
The artwork was designed by Zbigniew M. Bielak, who has also lended his talents to the likes of Behemoth, Mayhem, and Ghost. If you ask us, it looks suitably evil and we can only hope that the music contained within is just as dark!
"Eonian represents the illusion of time, everything that is and always has been. For us, it also marks the 25th anniversary of Dimmu Borgir and the album itself is a tribute to our own history and the Norwegian black metal history." Said vocalist Shagrath of the new album.
Eonian was engineered by Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with Opeth and Katatonia, so we know it's going to sound fantastic. The album also features orchestral compositions from Fleshgod Apocalypse keyboardist Francesco Ferrini.
The first single from the new album is due out February 23. Could this be a return to form for a newly revitalised Dimmu Borgir? We hope so!
