In massive news for the Australian music industry, the iconic South By Southwest will be hosting an event in Sydney in 2023.
South by Southwest Sydney will be the first time the festival has expanded outside of its Austin, Texas home. The inaugural Australian edition of SXSW is set to take place in Sydney in October 2023, showcasing the latest in music, film, gaming, tech and innovation.
With over 1000 performances, keynote addresses, panel sessions, screenings and more running throughout the city. SXSW Sydney will kick off on Sunday, 15th October 2023 and run for a full week. The format will be very similar to what is seen in Austin.
SXSW is set to run an Asia-Pacific edition of the conference annually following the inaugural Sydney event. Destination NSW and TEG will help to organise the Sydney event.
The Managing Director of SXSW Sydney Colin Daniels iteration said the event would bring together “the largest group of inspiring international thinkers, creators, innovators and performers ever seen in Sydney at one time.”
SXSW CEO and co-founder Roland Swenson said
"We believe that Sydney’s similar future-focused, fast-moving culture that celebrates and cultivates creativity across many different industries, artistic endeavours and entrepreneurial projects makes it the perfect destination for an extension of our event,”
