It's Valentine's Day, which means it's time for most Maniacs to show off their more sensitive side. If you're looking for a way to show that special someone (or special someone's, hey, we're not judging, you do you) how you feel, but just can't find the words, then you're in luck, because we've put together a playlist to do it for you. This is Songs That Scream I Love You - A Valentine's Day Playlist For Maniacs.
Lamb Of God - Walk With Me In Hell
This gargantuan metal stomp about walking through hell hand-in-hand with another was written by Mark Morton to recognise the significance and intent of his wedding vowels. We can't think of anything quite as romantic for a metalhead to hear than that.
H.I.M- Right Here In My Arms
Okay, we admit it, this entire playlist could just be H.I.M's discography and you'd be getting it on in no time, but we committed to the bit, so we'll just choose this piece of overly romantic goth-metal poetry and then let nature and Ville's tender tone have its way with you.
Type O Negative - Love You To Death
Speaking of goth-metal romanticism, it doesn't get much more iconic or romantic Type O Negative. This is romance, albeit unrequited.
Deftones - Sextape
I mean this one's title speaks for itself. This is a song to make love to. "Tempt with hours of pleasure, take me one more time, take me one more wave, take me for one last ride".
Bring Me The Horizon - Follow You
One of the most heartfelt, open and tender songs in the BMTH catalogue is Oli Sykes explaining the lengths to which his romantic devotions extend. "You can drag me through hell, if it meant I could hold your hand, I would follow you" This is love.
Avenged Sevenfold- Dear God
A song of dedication and love for those forced apart by vocation, circumstance or in the case of the video clip, incarceration. Yes, it is a well-worn trope in the rock and metal world, but it doesn't make it any less heartfelt, romantic or true.
Trivium - This World Can't Tear Us Apart
As close as Trivium gets to sappy sentimentality. A classic case of 'love against the world', this is a quality traditional metal love song with arguably the best chorus on the all-too-often misunderstood The Crusade.
Skid Row - I Remember You
"I said I'd give my life for just one kiss, I'd live for your smile and die for your kiss"There's a lot of hair metal ballads and you could pick any of them and they'd all but at home on this playlist, but for the purposes of this playlist, we're giving the nod to Skid Row's I Remember You, mostly because it's a chance to hear Sebastian Bach in full pop-metal mode. A real 'lighters in the air' type of anthem, ask anyone who attended the Guns N Roses/Skid Row show in 1993 at Calder Park, this song is a lovely time, sing the line I LOOOOOOVVVVEEE YOOOUUUU with as much as passion as Seb here and you're in.
Ozzy Osbourne - Mama I'm Coming Home
An ode to none other than his beloved wife and manager, Sharon, Ozzy roped in friends Lemmy and Zakk Wylde to piece this solo hit together. A fitting entry on the list from one half of the metal world's most enduring couples.
Converge - Heaven In Her Arms
Believe it or not, amidst the sonic chaos, Converge are rather romantic. Listen close and you'll hear the words "I LOVE YOU" screamed with more passion and intensity than mere mortals could hope to muster.
Stone Sour - Song #3
Snuff is about as close as Corey Taylor's contributions to Slipknot get and while it is technically a 'love song' it probably doesn't really belong on this list, given its dark content, Stone Sour however have a whole bunch of love tunes, none of them are as romantic or well written as Song #3 though.
Nightwish - Ever Dream
This whole song just screams 'love' to us.
