Watch Brisbane metal band Revoid get fired up in the video for the new single Gloomsayer premiering now via Maniacs.
Brisbane metal band Revoid are gearing up to welcome their debut EP Sleepless Still into 2022 on April 29th and given us all a taste of what's to come, in the form of their fiery video for the driving new single Gloomsayer.
Speaking with Maniacs on the inspiration for the blistering metal anthem, vocalist Dale Dudeson explains.
"This song is about the people who can only seem to impart unhelpful platitudes in the face of distress, loss, and discontent in general. “Look on the bright side” “Maybe just sleep on it, things will be better” “Just pray about it”; Personally, I believe it irresponsible to dismiss such powerful lessons with idle banalities so casually, and it shows an insane lack of accountability. Everything we experience in our tiny lifespans is far more important than to be simply be ignored or bypassed like that, and there is an opportunity to learn in every good and bad experience, however beautiful or hopeless.
The lyrics for this song were not designed to be an attack on religion or faith, as they could be interpreted, but having come from a significantly religious background myself, I have found in my experience that the people in these communities/organisations etc are probably the most consistent example of this concept, so given my experience, it was easy to write surrounding this concept. There may be a grand plan, or there may not be, but that doesn’t make our realities any less important, or the opportunities to learn any less crucial. We are all immediately responsible and accountable for ourselves here."
Gloomsayer's crushing sonic canvas is the result of Revoid teaming up with Mark Williamson of Keywork Audio (Inertia, Closure, Keepsake) to engineer the release as and Kris Crummett (Dance Gavin Dance, Hail The Sun, Sleeping With Sirens) to master. With Gloomsayer Revoid have set a new standard for themselves and at Maniacs we're more than a little fired up about it!
Gloomsayer follows Cut Me Down which saw success on triple j Unearthed, Triple M Hard N Heavy, Hysteria Mag, HEAVY Mag, Wall Of Sound and more.
