Adelaide nu-metalcore four piece Heartline are kicking off their 2021 with an absolute bang, dropping a killer new single called 'As The Crow Flies' - the first taste of things to come from their upcoming sophomore EP I Call For The Sinking Warmth!
There's a level of songwriting maturity on display here that is rarely seen from a band so fresh into their journey, and they do a fantastic job of striking the delicate duality between melody and heaviness, with down-tuned cybernetic riffs, electronic elements and a crushing breakdown at the end too. It reminds us a little bit of Node/Alien era Northlane, but still with a distinctly different feel overall.
'As The Crow Flies' also features David De La Hoz (Belle Haven/Wither), and it's all been given a pristine coat of paint by producer Lance Prenc too, who has worked with many of the scene's heavyweights including Polaris, Gravemind, Thornhill and Diamond Construct.
Thematically, the new tune tackles the issue of finding it hard to reach out to those around for help, something many young people struggle with:
"The single demonstrates a young person finally confiding in their long time friend and confessing that they are not okay. This is something a lot of young people who struggle with mental illness go through - the struggle to admit to vulnerability. However, the twist visually is that he never opens up and is once again inside his head trying to bring himself to do so."

Heartline have been drumming up a name for themselves over the last couple of years, sharing the stage with some huge names like Thy Art Is Murder, Windwaker, Gravemind and Diamond Construct, and they're definitely poised to keep carving out their own spot going forward.
