It's been a confusing year for Tool fans - any news of progression on the new album has usually been swiftly quashed by vocalist Maynard James Keenan. That's why it's to our shock and surprise that he's taken to Twitter to announce that he had actually been sent the songs a few months ago, further adding that melodies and lyrics are '100% done on all but one' of the songs.
...but way ahead. Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1. Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer. Meanwhile new @aperfectcircle release on 4/20. #whileyouwerewhiningiwasworking #theresyourupdate #eattheelephant #aperfectcircle2018

This comes after Maynard was quoted saying nothing was even tracked for the new album only a couple of weeks ago, despite various claims from outsider musicians that they'd heard music from the album in the studio.
Maybe he'd been avoiding the real update to instead draw attention to the new A Perfect Circle single that dropped at the same time, but this is very promising news. Will we get the album this year? Maybe, maybe not. Fingers crossed!
