Mark Lanegan, the legendary frontman for iconic Seattle rockers Screaming Trees, has passed away at the age of 57.
A former member of Queens Of The Stone Age and a respected solo artist, Lanegan created and released a staggering volume of quality work throughout his lengthy career including seven Screaming Trees albums, 12 solo albums and made contributions to five of Queens Of The Stone Age's seven albums, including co-writing their monster hit No One Knows with Josh Homme.
Lanegan died in his home in Killarney, Ireland, according to an official statement posted to Twitter which you can see below. He is survived by his wife, Shelley. The statement notes that “no other information is available at this time,” and asks for the family’s privacy.

Screaming Trees posted a tribute to their frontman via Facebook, stating "He was our true brother and we all truly loved him". The statement can be seen in full, below.
Lanegan released his debut solo album, The Winding Sheet, in 1990 and continued working on solo work through the release of 2020’s Straight Songs of Sorrow working under his own name and often the more communal Mark Lanegan Band.

Lanegan's run in Queens of the Stone Age began in 2001 while the band were touring Rated R. Despite technically leaving the band in 2005, he appeared on five of the band’s seven albums, including Rated R, Songs For The Deaf, Lullabies To Paralyze, Era Vulgaris, and …Like Clockwork.

In addition to his work with Screaming Trees, QOTSA and his solo work, Lanegan made a trio of albums with former Belle & Sebastian member Isobel Campbell; two records with English multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood; and one album, Saturnalia with The Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli as The Gutter Twins.
A published author and poet, Lanegan released a memoir, Devil In a Coma last year.
