Rob Zombie has dropped two new songs that will appear on the soundtrack for his cinematic take on The Munsters.
The two tracks are now available to stream and both present a distinctly different musical offering from Rob Zombie than we've come to expect. It's Zombo is a horror-punk tune sung by cast members and appears to be the theme song for a character named Zombo. Zombo appeared in episode 22 of season 2 of the classic series, when Herman gets jealous when he thinks his son is more interested in a children's television character called Zombo than in the love of his father. It'll be interesting for us all to learn what Zombie's take on that dynamic is when the film releases.
The second of the two tracks, House Of Zombo is more a crappy sound-art piece, than a song, but offers further hints as to the themes and sound design of The Munsters movie. Both tunes appear on the Waxworks Records 12" It's Zombo available right now. The full soundtrack is set to arrive in September.
The official trailer for Rob Zombie's cinematic re-imagination of The Munsters gives us a our first look at Zombie's take on the cult classic TV sitcom. The film looks to replicate the kind of PG rated spooky fun that made the 1964 original so damn memorable. The first trailer takes us back to 1313 Mockingbird Lane in vivid style, giving us our first glimpse at the "strangest love story ever told", highlighting the romance between Jeff Daniel Phillips (Lords Of Salem, 3 From Hell) Herman Munster and Sheri Moon Zombie's as Lily Munster. The bright campy vibe might come as a bit of a surprise to fans of Rob Zombie's prior cineamtic works, but it appears to do exactly what he promised it would, bring The Munsters OG stylings to the big screen.
The Munsters will also star Dan Roebuck (The Fugitive, Final Destination) as Grandpa and feature some cameos from original cast members. The original TV sitcom version of The Munsters ran for two seasons in the mid-'60s but has established an incredibly strong cult following amongst later generations, with telemovie sequels, The Munsters Today TV series and a plethora of film and TV adaptations have been attempted since with ultimately none seeing public release (the closest to coming to fruition was Bryan Fuller's Mockingbird Lane pilot for NBC). Now finally it appears Rob Zombie was the man with the plan and the clout to finally make it happen as The Munsters will premiere on Peacock in September!
