After shocking the world with their performance at the BRIT Awards, Bring Me The Horizon and Ed Sheeran have come together to release a beefed-up studio version of Sheeran's monster hit Bad Habits. The new version of Bad Habits juxtaposes Sheeran's stadium-pop stylings with trademark elements of Bring Me The Horizon's recent pop-metal offerings. Featuring vocals from two of modern music's most instantly recognisable voices, Sheeran and Oli Sykes, this new edition of Bad Habits is sure to fly up the charts.
Bad Habits may not be a one-off either, with both artists seemingly encouraged by working together.
Reflecting on the song's release Sheeran offered,
"I really enjoyed the show last week and I think people will really like the new version. Excited to get it out.”
Skyes shared his enthusiasm,
“From receiving the email asking whether we’d like to open the Brits with Ed Sheeran to us chatting and bouncing ideas to rehearsing and then performing and now releasing, this has needless to say been pretty mental. But we are all about pushing the boundaries of our own and other genres, so this felt like the perfect challenge.”
Sheeran has some form in this area and is seriously considering a collaboration with one of his childhood metal idols, Dani Filth of Cradle Of Filth. If that collaboration was to happen it would put him in good company with Bring Me The Horizon who collaborated with Dani on the song wonderful Life, which you can watch below.
It's also not the first pop collaboration for Sykes either having worked with daine or Bring Me The Horizon who has worked with the likes of Halsey, Lights, Grimes and many other artists from across the spectrum. The latest in a long line of unexpected collaborations again showcases the scope of Bring Me The Horizon's vision and comes only days after the band released a cover of the Gran Turismo theme for the soundtrack of the upcoming Gran Turismo 7.
Bring Me The Horizon's take on Masahiro Androh of T-Square's Moon Over The Castle is our first taste of the soundtrack which will feature music from Nothing But Thieves, Major Lazor, London Grammar and more.
Currently, in the studio working on the second of four planned EP's in the Post Human series, Bring Me the Horizon continue to push new boundaries with frontman Oli Sykes revealing to Rolling Stone UK self-compassion and self-love will be the thematic focus of the second Post Human EP.
“With this record, I’m going to try to teach people to have compassion for themselves, as someone who fucking hated themselves," he explained. “It used to make me sick to hear ‘you’ve got to love yourself’ — never. I used to put all my awards in a cupboard, I wouldn’t look at them. If someone asked me what I did, I would never say I was in a band, I’d say I own a clothing company or a restaurant. I just didn’t wanna talk about it. Now I love myself. I can look in the mirror and go ‘You’re doing good.’ I can say ‘I’m a rock star, my band’s doing well.’”
The band released Die4U last year, with the darker, more pop-centric vibe of the song indicating yet another sonic progression appears to be on the cards when the second Post Human EP drops.
