Keanu Reeves's band Dogstar have reformed. The alt-rock band are currently teasing the release of their first new original music in over 20 years.
The band took to Instagram recently to confirm their impending return, revealing that they "will be rolling out some new music this summer, followed by some gigs. As soon as it is all figured out, we'll let everyone know immediately". The band elaborated on their plans further commenting "We are also going to make a music video to support our first tune. That's all I can say now. Can't wait to share our new music with everyone. It's the most satisfying and meaningful batch of songs we've ever done. Thanks again for being so patient with us. We truly have the best, most loyal fans!"
The star of The Matrix and John Wick franchises, Reeves is no stranger to rock audiences, with the Dogstar bassist/ backing vocalist having appeared alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers Anthony Kiedis in Point Break. Dogstar's initial run in the '90s even featured a run of support acts that would go on to become major acts in their own right including Rancid and Weezer whose first-ever gig was as the opener for Dogstar. Infamously, the band opened for some rock legends themselves, including Bon Jovi in Auckland in 1995, you can watch the video from that performance below.
The band's most recent known activity was an onscreen cameo appearance in the 2005 comedy Ellie Parker. Fellow actor Robert Mailhouse (Days of Our Lives/Seinfeld) serves as the drummer of Dogstar, with guitarist/vocalist Brett Domrose completing the lineup. Dogstar's latest release, a cover of Mr.Big's Shine was released in 2003, with their last known original recording being their 2000 album Happy Ending.
Reeves is one of a number of actors in bands, with the likes of Jared Leto (30 Seconds To Mars), Kevin Bacon (The Bacon Brothers), Jack Black (Tenacious D), Russell Crowe (30 Odd Foot Of Grunts), Macaulay Caulkin (The Pizza Underground), Johnny Depp (Hollywood Vampires), Zooey Deschanel (She & Him), Ryan Gosling (Dean Man's Bones), Zoe Kravitz (Lolawol), Juliette Lewis (Juliette Lewis & The Licks), Jada Pinkett-Smith (Wicked Wisdom), Jason Schwartzman (Phantom Planet) and Billy Bob Thornton (The Boxmasters) releasing music to varying degrees of success. Leto is inarguably the most successful of this lot with the Academy Award-winning actor's alt/emo group having sold over 15 million albums worldwide.
