It's always nice when someone from 'our world' gets a little bit of organic love from the mainstream and that's exactly what's about to happen for Jesus Piece drummer Luis Aponte. Aponte will perform with English modern pop megastar Charli XCX on this weekend's episode of American cultural institution, Saturday Night Live. The oddball pairing of the Boom Clap singer and the stickman for the unrelentingly punishing Philly metalcore band came about after Charli XCX saw a viral drum cam video of Aponte posted by hate5six. You can watch the video below.
Aponte's performance is always pretty mind-blowing, so it is no surprise to us or anyone who has heard Jesus Piece or seen them live that Charli XCX was quite impressed. Aponte will perform live with Charli XCX on the final SNL broadcast of the year, an episode that will be hosted by none other than Ant-Man, the ageless wonder, Paul Rudd himself. We have no idea what they'll be performing together, but we are confident that whatever it is, Aponte has absolutely got this.
Also, as a model for underwear brand NOAH, there's always a chance Aponte will have a thirst-trap in store for the SNL audience as he beats his drums into submission.
If you're somehow unfamiliar with Jesus Piece we highly recommend doing a deep-dive on their back catalogue, they're fucking fantastic. They were last seen in Australia, serving as support for Knocked Loose alongside Kubai Klan just before the pandemic hit and the shows were as hectic as any we've experienced in recent memory. Here's hoping you (and Charli XCX) will join us in the pit when they return.
